The Burt Lake Trail is a trail in concept that will begin at Brutus or Pellston in Emmet County and end in Topinabee in Cheboygan County.  The exact route is still under consideration but the general plan is to build an approximately 17 mile crushed limestone, off road trail that will follow Brutus Road or Douglas Lake and Riggsville Roads, West Burt Lake Road, Hogsback Road, East Burt Lake Road, and Topinabee Mail Road. The current map shows the trail beginning in Brutus but this could change as plans progress.

The Burt Lake Trail Committee was formed in mid- 2008 to conceptualize and carry out the project. In addition to creating a mid-range connection of the Petoskey to Mackinaw City Trail to the North Central State Trail (Gaylord to Mackinaw City) at Topinabee the trail will provide a gorgeous ride around the north end of Burt Lake.

When completed, this trail will provide a southern connector between the Petoskey to Mackinaw City Trail and the North Central State Trail (Gaylord to Mackinaw City.) For more information go to the Burt Township website at http://www.burttownship.org/index.html
