  2008 Trail Ride & Events Schedule


  April 19 (Saturday) Earth Day Ride to Susan Creek with the Little Traverse Conservancy,  Little Traverse Wheelway, Bay Shore to Susan Creek Preserve and return, 12 miles biking, 1 mile hiking in preserve, about three hours, all-asphalt trail, meet at 10 am at West Park in Bay Shore, all bikes welcome, discount lunch coupons from partnering restaurant.

 April 26 (Saturday) 'Tip 'Em Over for Trails."  our spring fund-raising event will be held from 3 to 6 pm at the Northern Lights Recreation Center on M-119 between Petoskey and Harbor Springs, bowling and other things to do, a real family event with special rates for kids, details TBA.

May 17 (Saturday) Farm Daze Tour, Fund Raiser for MSU Bikes, East Lansing

May 18 (Sunday) Tri4Fun Non-Competitive Sprint Triathlon for Women

May 24 (Saturday) Mac City Looper Ride, New Course this year, Cheboygan to Mackinaw City Trail and local roads, about 26 miles, about three hours, new crushed limestone trail and local roads, meet at DNR Trailhead off Nicolet St. behind Mackinaw Crossings at 10 am, mountain or hybrid bikes recommended, discount lunch coupons from partnering restaurant.

May 31 (Saturday) Harbor Springs Cycling Classic Spring

June 7 (Saturday) 6,7, 8, A Date to Remember, National Trails Day Ride and Grand Opening of the Gaylord to Mackinaw City Trail, a gala event, ribbon cuttings at six trail towns at 8:30 am, riders depart after ceremony and converge in Indian River for trail dedication at 1 pm in Marina Park, lunch from noon-2 pm, includes lunch, tee shirts, vendors, shuttle transportation back to cars, register for the trail ride before May 15, ($25 individual-$50 family, $30-$60 after May 15).  Additional information and online registration at www.trailscouncil.org or (231) 348-8280.

June 11 Wednesday) Annual Meeting at 6:30 pm at the Library Conference Center at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, Keri Finlayson, a professor at North Central Michigan College, will be the featured speaker.  This will be the first public event for Keri who will have just returned from an epic bicycle ride from Cairo, Egypt to Cape Town, South Africa, details TBA, the date and place of this event have been changed from the original

June  14 (Saturday), Brutus to the University of Michigan Biological Station via the Petoskey to Mackinaw City Trail and local roads, tour of the bug station, return on West Burt Lake Road and Brutus Road, 22 miles, three or four hours, unimproved rail-trail and local roads and paths, meet at Maple River Township Hall at Brutus Road and US 31 at 9 am, some sandy areas in the bug station, mountain bikes recommended, discount lunch coupons from partnering restaurant

June 20-22, (Friday-Sunday) Sunrise Adventure

June 21, (Saturday) 6th Annual Charlevoix/Emmet County Pink Ribbon Ride

July 6 (Sunday), Ride from Wolverine to Gaylord and return on the Gaylord to Mackinaw City Trail, 20 miles one way, shuttle available for pre-registrants, three to four hours, new crushed limestone trail, meet at the old depot on the trail near the Sturgeon River in Wolverine at 2 pm, all bikes welcome

July 12-18 (Saturday-Friday) Michigander 7 Day Tour

July 12-13 (Saturday-Sunday) Michigander 2 Day Tour

July 13-18 (Sunday-Friday) Michigander 6 Day Tour

August 1 (Friday) Family Ride on the Little Traverse Wheelway between Petoskey and Harbor Springs, turn around where you wish but entire roundtrip is 18 miles, about two hours, all asphalt trail, meet at 6:30 pm at Historical Museum, all bikes welcome, discount lunch coupons from a partnering restaurant

August 2 (Saturday) Ride the Charx

  TOMTC events are low-key, non-competitive rides over our non-motorized trails and sometimes local roads and trails.  Most are 15 to 25 miles long and take 1 1/2 to three hours to complete except where noted.  Rides are free to members and $5 for non-members.  Register in advance by calling or e-mailing us before 5 pm the day before the event.  Ride-ins usually welcome.  All events will be held RAIN or SHINE.  Helmets are required.  Discount coupons from partnering restaurants are usually available.  Please read the description of each event for details.
