Members of the Little Traverse Wheelway Committee are: Fred Fettis, chairman, Steve Barney, Al Dika, Neal McCue, Emily Meyerson, Max Putters, Tom Stanley, Tammy Doernenburg, and Jeremy Wills.
The Committee is responsible for the mural on the north face of Glen's North Market in Petoskey that was finished in the fall of 2006. (See our website.) The mural was painted by Kingsley artist Terry Dickinson and depicts transportation along the wheelway corridor at different times in history.
The Wheelway Committee is working hard to complete the two "gaps" that currently exist on the route. See our home page and the trail description under "Trails."
On the "Resort Bluffs" segment (1.4 miles) between East Park in Bay Harbor and Magnus Park in Petoskey the final easement has been obtained. Much of the design work has already been done and funds are in place for the construction that officially began June 9, 2008.
On the "Gateway to Harbor Springs" segment (3.2 miles) between the Little Traverse Township Park near the airport and the City of Harbor Springs, good progress has been made in getting the necessary easements to finish the trail. The trailhead will be built at the ball fields at Lake and Hoyt Streets on the east sides of town. Construction grants have been obtained and the segment is expected to be built in 2009.
