Grant to Improve Gaylord to Mackinaw City Trail Announced

Trail to Connect Gaylord to Mackinaw City

Gaylord Herald-Times

GAYLORD - A grant recently awarded to the Top of Michican Trails Council will be put toward a trail improvement project scheduled to begin in the spring.

Given to the council by the Otsego County Community Foundation, the grant will join thousands of dollors in donations and contributions from local governments, foundations, businesses and individuals to match federal funds for the trail project. Costing nearly $2 million, the project will involve resurfacing 62 miles of trail between Gaylord and Mackinaw City with crushed limestone which is expected to give trail users an excellent furface for walking, hiking, bicycling, jogging, and snowmobiling.

The project, undertaken by the Department of Natural Resources, will upgrade the trail running from Gaylord through Vanderbilt, Wolverine, Indian River, Topinabee, Mullet Lake Village, and Cheboygan before ending in Mackinaw City.
