It’s Time to Gear Up for Smart Commute Week
June 7-11, 2010 is a great time to consider alternate ways to get to work
If you’d like a little exercise and free food, you can enjoy both during the 1st annual Emmet County Smart Commute Week, June 7-11, 2010. Smart Commute Week is designed to get people to consider alternative ways to get to work. The week was designed with input and collaboration with over twenty private and community organizations and administered by the Top of Michigan Trails Council.
Smart Commuting can include bicycling, walking, carpooling, and even the opportunity to take a bus one day that week. This type of commuting can benefit your health, improve the environment, and save you money.
Each day of the week, free coffee and snacks will be offered to Smart Commuters at several sites in Petoskey and Harbor Springs. Bicycle safety classes will be offered and kids will be encouraged to Smart Commute to school via "Walking Buses".
The Commuter Cup Challenge is the heart and soul of Smart Commute Week, and is a friendly workplace competition to encourage coworkers to bike, walk or carpool. Commuter Cup participants earn points based on the percentage of total employees who “smart commute” to work.
The week will conclude on Friday, June 11 with a morning breakfast to award prizes to the winners of the Commuter Challenge Cup.
