‘The Beauty’ and ‘The Beast’ Await Nordic Ski Racers

The Black Mountain Nordic Ski Races will take place Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1, at 10 a.m., at the Chateau at Black Mountain, 10621 Twin Lakes Rd., Cheboygan, MI 49721.

Part of the Michigan Cup, this Nordic skiing event is open to seniors. The courses feature incredible rolling terrain and views of Black Lake and Lake Huron. Racers can choose from the Classic race on Saturday, the Freestyle on Sunday, or register for both. All races start at 10 a.m.

Shorter course options are also available this year. A 10k has been added to the Classic race and a 5k is available in the Freestyle event. Click here for full details and registration.

The 25k Classic has been nicknamed “The Beauty” by ski racers because it winds through rolling northern forest trails with views of both Black Lake and Lake Huron. The course is considered challenging and enjoyable. Referred to as “The Beast”, Sunday’s 12k Freestyle event features challenging hills.

Both races are Michigan Cup events and proceeds from each benefit grooming efforts at Black Mountain.
