The Boyne Valley Trail is being planned to start at Boyne Falls and connect in Boyne City to the future Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail. The trail will link amenities in Boyne Falls and the all-seasons Boyne Mountain Resort to Boyne City and on to Charlevoix. Funding will be sought from State and federal sources along with local matching funds.
The Boyne Valley Trailway Committee has been working for several years to establish the trail which will mostly follow the route of the former Boyne City, Gaylord & Alpena Railroad that used to run between Boyne Falls and Boyne City. All the necessary easements and property rights have been secured for the entire trail.
The plan calls for the trail to be constructed in three phases. The first phase would go from a trailhead to be constructed on Dam Road southeast toward the Boyne Falls School campus where it would then follow the former railroad grade to a trailhead on the Boyne Mountain property. The second phase would go from the Dam Road trailhead roughly following the Boyne River to another trailhead at the Boyne City Municipal Airport and terminating at M-75 (Boyne Avenue) near East Main Street. The third phase would be a spur that would go from the Dam Road trailhead directly into the village of Boyne Falls.
