SUMMARY:Lake to Lake Tour 2018
DESCRIPTION:“We thoroughly enjoyed the Lake to Lake tour during the fall of 2017. We appreciate all those who took the time to provide us with such a memorable weekend of riding\, local history and hospitality. Thanks for a bike trip that was special\, because my family and I were able to enjoy an outdoor activity with other cyclists that I now call my friends.” \n–David M\, Rochester     2017 participant \nLast year’s tour was a huge success\, so we’re doing it again in 2018. This bicycle tour gives participants the opportunity to ride from Lake Huron to Lake Michigan\, all on dedicated bike trails.  \n \n18 Bike Tour Registration and Waiver \n18 L2L brochure \nThe 2018 Lake to Lake Tour will begin on Friday morning\, September 14 at Petoskey’s Bayfront Park. From there\, you\, your gear and your bike will be transported to Alpena where you will dip your back tire in Lake Huron. The tour will follow the North Eastern State Trail to a lunch stop in Metz\, then on to the Nettie Bay Lodge (Hawks) where you’ll spend the night in a rustic hunting/fishing lodge. On Saturday the tour follows the NEST to Cheboygan\, where lodging will be provided at the Best Western hotel\, and you’ll travel by boat to dinner on the river. On Sunday\, the tour will follow the North Central State Trail to Mackinaw City\, to the northern terminus of the North Western State Trail. Then it’s south to Petoskey\, where you’ll ride the Little Traverse Wheelway to dip your front tire in Lake Michigan at Bayfront Park. \n\n\n\n\nIncluded in the tour cost are lodging\, transportation to Alpena\, day-to-day transport of any gear you don’t carry on your bike\, SAG support\, and volunteer riders to assure you a safe and enjoyable ride. Meals included in the registration price will be dinner on Friday and breakfast and dinner on Saturday. The total number of riders\, exclusive of volunteers\, will not exceed 30.  The cost for the tour is $450. Your deposit will be counted as your annual membership donation. All funds in excess of actual costs will be credited as a donation to the trail advocacy efforts of TOMTC. \n\n

SUMMARY:Kids Biking Club 2018 - Oden Fish Hatchery
DESCRIPTION:This is the third in a series of outings for kids ages 7 – 12 this July! This outing will originate at the Packy Offield Trail Center\, 1687 M 119 in Petoskey. Kids may bring their own bike helmets\, but will use a bike from our fleet of kids bikes. Before they ride they will be fitted for a bike and helmet\, learn a number of bike safety rules\, and learn about their route by studying a map of the route to their destination. \nFor this outing\, the group will pedal from the Top of Michigan Trails Council headquarters along the North Western State Trail.  After 3.5 miles\, they’ll reach their destination: the Oden State Fish Hatchery. Staff there will give the group a tour\, followed by a break with a healthy snack and water before the trip back to the Trail Center. Overall\, this trip will be about 7 miles round trip. \nThis program is carefully and thoughtfully planned by our Kids Biking Coordinator\, Cindy Okerlund. Adult volunteers accompany kids on these outings.  If you have questions\, please feel free to email Cindy. From there they’ll ride the Little Traverse Wheelway out to East Park for a nature scavenger hunt game. A light healthy snack and water will be provided before pedaling back to Bay View. DESCRIPTION:TOMTC’s Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday\, June 28 at 6:00 p.m. on the spacious lawn at the Packy Offield Trail Center\, 1687 M 119\, Petoskey. If you attended last year\, you know how much fun this will be! Delicious food\, great music\, and plenty of old friends to catch up with. Hear an update on the past year’s activities and meet our board of directors. \nTasty food will be available at no cost\, and adult beverages will be available for purchase. Music will again be provided by Jelly Roll! \nPLEASE NOTE: Parking is not a possibility at the Trail Center\, so plan on parking at b. may bags\, 1922 M 119. There is a short walk to the Trail Center\, or there will be a shuttle available if needed (please call to arrange – 348-8280). \nThe best way to get here? By bike!! DESCRIPTION:Five Top of Michigan Rotary Clubs will be participating in a pledge bicycle ride\, raising money to go towards Polio eradication worldwide. Top of Michigan Trails Council is partnering with them for this event\, and invites all of its members to participate. \nRotarians and Trails Council friends can participate in this event for a minimum $25.00 fee; though we would like to have you raise more pledge money. You can ride the full length from Charlevoix to Cheboygan (70 miles) or ride a particular segment of the trail. \nAll routes end at Top of Michigan Trails Council building on M-119 where hamburgers\, brats\, hot dogs will be served with drinks (cash bar). \nAwards will be distributed for the most miles ridden\, the shortest trip\, the most money raised\, the youngest rider\, etc. \nLunch will be served from 12:00 – 2:00 with awards to follow. \nThe Rotary Clubs involved in this adventure are Petoskey\, Cheboygan\, Charlevoix\, Petoskey Sunrise\, Little Traverse Bay Sunset. \nTo register for the ride\, and to begin collecting pledges for this great cause\, use the forms below. SUMMARY:9th Annual Emmet County Smart Commute Week
DESCRIPTION:Emmet County Smart Commute Week will be held June 4th – 7th.  The goal of this event is to promote alternative forms of commuting to school\, work and other activities. Participants are encouraged to walk\, bike or carpool; saving gas and carbon emissions\, and improving their overall health through increased physical activity.  \nThis promotion of environmentally and physically healthy forms of transportation was inaugurated in 2010 by the Top of Michigan Trails Council as a way of promoting the practical use of this area’s trail network. Many individuals use the Little Traverse Wheelway and the North Western State Trails to commute to and from work and school during the warm-weather months.   \nIn 2017 Smart Commute was extended over the summer months\, with a celebration held in early October\, and 170 individuals completed 2\,416 trips during the season\, Collectively\, smart commuters traveled 17\,419 miles\, preventing 15\,147 pounds of CO2 from entering the atmosphere. \nIf you would like to get involved as an individual or as a team\, contact Sue.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Stafford's Top of Michigan Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Stafford’s Top of Michigan Marathon – A USATF CERTIFIED COURSE to benefit the Top of Michigan Trails Council and Petoskey High School sports teams. \nIn addition to the marathon\, the race festival includes a 10K race/walk\, two 5K race/walk events and a half marathon. \nThe marathon race will be run on a beautiful course made of asphalt that starts in Charlevoix\, follows the coast line to Petoskey\, and finishes in Harbor Springs. The trail is an excellent venue for runners stepping up to a marathon or seasoned runners looking for a fast time. The trail is relatively flat and perfect for getting a qualifying time for other races. There is a grassy half-mile section run on the bluff in Bay View (to avoid pedestrian traffic). Runners will enjoy many spectacular views of the Little Traverse Bay. Title Sponsor is Stafford’s Hospitality.

SUMMARY:Michigan Mountain Mayhem Gravel Grinder
DESCRIPTION:he Gravel Grinder is a gravel road race like nothing you can imagine. This event is always the first Saturday in October (October 7th 2017) and is limited to 2000 riders. \nThe Gravel Grinder is essentially three races in one. The 18 mile race is flat and easy\, a great race for beginners or even the kids in the family. The 40 mile race is a gravel race best suited for Cross bikes. The seasonal roads have been removed for this route. Expect lots of fast gravel mixed with some tough climbs. The 60 mile race is for the person who wants a true challenge. You get five monster climbs\, lots of fast gravel roads\, multiple sections of tough seasonal roads which have sand\, mud and rocks and also a white knuckle descent. Whatever bike/tire you choose it will be the wrong one at some point. This route will test your mental sanity.

DESCRIPTION:For Brochure Click Here.        To Register complete this form. \nWith the completion of the North Western State Trail in 2016\, the possibility of traveling from one Great Lake to another on a series of rail trails became a reality. This bicycle tour gives participants the opportunity to dip their back wheel in Lake Huron and two days later to dip their front wheel in Lake Michigan.  \nThe tour will begin on Friday morning\, September 22 at the headquarters of Top of Michigan Trails Council\, 1687 M 119 in Petoskey. From there\, you\, your gear and your bike will be transported to Alpena where you will dip your back tire in Lake Huron. Then the group will ride on the Alpena Bi-Path for 1 1/2 miles to the new trailhead on Woodard near Alpena’s Event Complex (APlex). From there you will begin riding on the North Eastern State Trail (NEST) for 37 miles at your own speed. you will have the opportunity to stop at Metz for lunch (lunch is on your own). The trailhead at Metz has a wonderful display of historic markers commemorating the fire of 1908 that claimed 37 lives. A local historian will give further details regarding the fire. \n\nYour destination will be Nettie Bay Lodge\, about a mile off the trail. Nettie Bay Lodge offers comfortable rustic cabins on Nettie Lake\, which is well-known for its loons. Dinner will be in the Lodge’s dining room. After dinner a local naturalist will give a presentation on the local loon poulation.\n\n \n\n\nSaturday will begin with breakfast at the Lodge and then back to the NEST and a scenic 41-mile ride to Cheboygan. You will go through Millersburg where you may stop at the depot-turned-museum\, and then on to Onaway\, Tower\, and Aloha. Lunch can be purchased at the Aloha village store. The day will end in Cheboygan where the group will stay at the Best Western. A group dinner is being planned at Pier 33 and\, if our plans work out\, you’ll be transported to the restaurant by boat. Matt Friday will provide an overview of Cheboygan’s history during the dinner.\n\n\nSunday will begin with breakfast on your own in Cheboygan before you ride the North Central State Trail and North Western State Trail for 50 miles (through Mackinaw City\, Pellston\, Brutus and Alanson). Lunch will be on your own at one of several restaurants along the NWST. The tour will end in Petoskey\, where you’ll celebrate by dipping your front tire in Lake Michigan. The conclusion of the ride will be close to where your car is parked.\n\n\n\nIncluded in the tour cost is transportation to Alpena\, day-to-day transport of any gear you don’t carry on your bike\, SAG support\, and volunteer riders to assure you a safe and enjoyable ride. Lodging will also be included. Meals included in the registration price will be dinner on Friday and breakfast and dinner on Saturday. SUMMARY:Big Cut Bike Rally
DESCRIPTION:Rogers City Racing Club is hosting the Big Cut Bike Rally on July 15. It is NOT a race but rather an opportunity for families to hit the North Eastern State Trail and enjoy a SAG supported ride from Millersburg to Hawks (8.9 miles one way) and back to Millersburg. \nRogers City Racing Club will support the bike riders from the trailhead to Hawks with snacks\, water and assistance on the trail. Bikers are not expected to complete the distance unless they desire.  The first flight leaves the Millersburg Trailhead at 10:00 a.m. then the second at 10:20 a.m. with lunch served upon return to Millersburg. \nThis is the perfect summertime event to get some exercise\, a great lunch and explore our local history. \nParticipation fee for the rally is $25.00 per person\, $40.00 for a couple and $15.00 for participants under 18 years of age.  This includes three lunch choices from Three Cedars Restaurant in Millersburg of a Mex-Veggie wrap\, a Chicken Ranch wrap\, or a BLT wrap.  This further includes an assortment of chips\, fruit and non-alcoholic beverages.  Lunch will be served between 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm.  After lunch many will want to tour the Millersburg Depot Historical Museum and see the only depot left on the Detroit & Mackinaw Railway line.Registration forms are available in Rogers City at Presque Isle Athletic Club and in Millersburg at Pine Lumber and all five branches of Presque Isle County Libraries.  For additional information call Gary Rickard at (989) 734-0008. \nRegistration forms are available with the link below. SUMMARY:Bike-a-Palooza!
DESCRIPTION:Emmet County Parks and Recreation is joining forces with Top of Michigan Trails Council to host a fun family event to raise awareness of the Little Traverse Wheelway. Bike-a-Palooza will be held at the Emmet County Fairgrounds on Sunday\, June 18 from 2 – 4 p.m. The event is free to the public\, and will offer a kids bike rodeo\, bicycle demos\, free bike safety checks\, and free pizza\, salad and root beer floats. A recommended donation of $5.00 (individual) or $10.00 (family) will be requested. \nThe event begins with a Fathers Day family bike ride from East Park pavilion. Registration will take place between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m. Family members will be given a token for a free ice cream cone at Bob-In Again. Family cycling groups will travel the Wheelway to the Bob-In at their own pace\, and can then return to enjoy the fun at the Fairgrounds. \nFor many cyclists in our area\, the Wheelway is a favorite route that connects the communities of Charlevoix\, Petoskey-Bay Harbor and Harbor Springs. This 26-mile paved trail is also a destination for many visitors to our area. \nThis event is a celebration of the trail\, but is also meant to point out the need for funding for maintenance.
