Little Traverse Conservancy Paves More of Burt Lake Trail

Little Traverse Conservancy did us all a huge favor this summer when it paved about a mile of the Burt Lake Trail. The new surface cuts through the Conservancy’s Chaboiganing Nature Preserve, enhancing accessibility and ease of use.

What was once a wide dirt path is now a smooth black ribbon that gives trail users even better access to nearby Maple Bay State Forest Campground.

Gentle hills and views of simmering water provide the background for the Burt Lake Trail. This trail provides a safer recreation and transportation route to bike, walk, and enjoy the gorgeous scenery around the north end of Burt Lake. With both paved and limestone surfaces, places to view the lake, and connections to trails for hiking, this trail has a lot to offer, and the new paving is very nice.

UPDATE: Contrary to our recent report about new paving on the Burt Lake Trail, more than one organization is responsible for that work. In fact, the Little Traverse Conservancy contributed $20,000 to the project which saw about a mile of paving completed in the Chaboiganing Nature Preserve. Additionally, Burt Township contributed $20,400. Steve Vorenkamp, a key proponent of the Burt Lake Trail, was instrumental in bringing the two groups together.
