19 Sep Pedaling With a Purpose Fall Make-up Rides Begin

Kids Pedaling with a Purpose all-day educational bike rides from Spring Lake Park to the Oden Fish Hatchery began Monday, Sept. 16.

Ten Emmet County fifth grade classes (that missed out last May as fourth grade classes due to ice storm damage on the trails) are riding with Program Director Cindy Okerlund and her throngs of enthusiastic volunteers on the North Western State Trail.

Combining science, geography, history, and most importantly, health, students spend the day reading maps, taking nature walks, discovering local history, and learning the life cycle of fish, as well as basic bicycle mechanics and etiquette to ride in a group.
