16 Oct Little Traverse Wheelway Repair Subject of Petoskey’s Oct. 20 Open House
The Petoskey City Council is hosting a public open house to showcase plans to repair the Little Traverse Wheelway’s collapsed section on Monday, Oct. 20, 4-5:30 p.m., at Petoskey City Hall, 101 E. Lake St.

The Council’s regular meeting will follow at 6 p.m., but an official decision on the presented plans is not expected then.
The open house will take place in the community room. The City Council meeting presentation will also be available online.
The City Council is expected to hear an updated engineering report on plans to repair the collapsed “Miracle Mile” section of the Little Traverse Wheelway between Magnus Park and East Park. Two sections of the Wheelway, in a mile-long stretch of shoreline, washed out in 2020 due to a mix of ecological conditions. Consequently, a reroute of the trail was studied, but officials abandoned the idea. Instead the City engaged Baird Associates to formulate a plan to repair the shoreline and restore the trail in its original location.
Baird engineers presented a design update last October when the plan was about 50 percent complete. Monday’s meeting will see a reveal of the entire repair plan.
Anyone interested in the Wheelway’s restoration is encouraged to attend the public open house and/or the following public meeting. But, again, a formal decision from the City Council’s isn’t anticipated at Monday’s meeting.
