Come discover the Northern Lower Peninsula, Michigan’s premier bikepacking destination

What is bikepacking?
Riding a bicycle longer distances, staying overnight along the way at either hotels or campsites. Bring minimal gear with you and stay in a hotel or pack up your panniers or trailer and camp out under the stars.

What is the Northern Lower Peninsula Trail Network?
250+ miles of bicycle trails crisscrossing the Norther Lower Peninsula (NLP) of Michigan from Lake Huron to the Straits of Mackinac and from the Central highlands to Lake Michigan. These trails have been developed by both the State of Michigan and local municipalities and the network is expanding every year.

Bikepacking the NLP you can stay entirely on easy developed bicycle trails (mostly rail-trails) or combine trails and rural roads creating an endless number of opportunities. There are plenty of hotels and various types of camping opportunities. The small towns, parks and developed trails a make the NLP a wonderful first time bikepacking experience; or for those who want more of a challenge or a longer trip, create loops utilizing low traffic roads.

What might you discover along the NLP?
Incredible vistas, small town charm, historic sites, sinkholes, beautiful barns, remote forest lands, unique shopping, swimming holes, breweries, wineries, wildlife, an underwater observatory, lighthouses, museums, farmers markets, and endless dark skies.

Trail Surface/bicycle type: Most NLP trails are a hard surface made of crushed limestone, best bike choice is a hybrid bike, but any type of bike can be used.
