04 Feb Pedaling with a Purpose Gang Back in Local Schools

Trails Council Youth Program Coordinator Cindy Okerlund and her core volunteers are back in Emmet County elementary schools, evaluating fourth graders’ bicycling skills and educating kids about safe bicycling.

The popular Kids Pedaling with a Purpose program has served thousands of area fourth graders through fun, healthy, and educational all-day bike rides at the school year’s end. Over 100 community volunteers donate their time to make the annual program possible.

Winter sees students learning about safe cycling in the classroom, then employing the knowledge on actual bikes in the school gymnasium.

Early May brings the eight-mile rides between Spring Lake Park and Oden State Fish Hatchery. These field trips continue through May and into June.
