01 Jul Trail of the Week: Little Traverse Wheelway West
If you are a fan of the Little Traverse Wheelway between Petoskey and East Park, and are sad that erosion is preventing you from using it this summer, we recommend checking out the section between East Park and Charlevoix. With beautiful views of Lake Michigan and a roadside park to stop and stretch your legs, it is sure to satisfy your Lake Michigan viewing urge! Park at East Park for an out and back – 5 miles to West Park , 7 miles to the overlook, 9 miles to roadside park, or 14 miles all the way into Charlevoix.
Just east of the roadside park, there is a little bit of wash out. Check out the pictures below to get an idea of the damage. Please stay off this part of the trail, as continued use makes the erosion worse.
